Cowbridge Cricket Club held their Inaugural Junior Open Day on Sunday 19th
April. Whilst the day was organised in order to register those juniors who
were members of the Club the previous year it’s main aim was to give those
interested in starting a new sport a taste of cricket.

Fortunately, the day was warm and we were blessed with beautiful sunshine
enabling those participating to enjoy the sport in its true glory. The
turnout was fantastic. Over 60 juniors attended with ages ranging from 6
to 16. The most pleasing thing was around 20 of those that attended were
either new to the Club or the game itself. In addition, pre event
advertising had promoted and encouraged the attendance of girls and again
it was pleasing that some attended and all that did, went on to represent
one of the junior teams during the season.

During
the day, the juniors were able to learn or practice their skills either on
the square, on the outfield or in the nets, coached by fully qualified ECB
Coaches whilst the parents and guardians enjoyed a relaxing drink or two
on the patio!
In
addition to the coaching, a most successful raffle was held and the Club
is grateful to Jensen Sports, Rhys Williams and Ben Wright for donating
raffle prizes. Also, thanks to Graham Bishop and David Webb for donning
the aprons at the BBQ and helping satisfy the well earned appetites.

The
Committee was very pleased with the number of young faces present and
hopes that 2010 will see the majority of those who attended return, eager
to participate during the season and hopefully encourage some of their
friends to come along and give it a go!
