If you thought the weather effected the
2007 season then think again – the 2008 season was even worse, with the
Under 11’s only managing to take to the field 6 times and complete 5 of
their matches. The weather also effected the training sessions on Sunday
mornings and this may have had an impact on the results of the games
played – Won one, lost four.
However, despite the appalling weather,
it was great to see so many enthusiastic youngsters keen to get involved,
whatever their ability, and hopefully they had fun, which is without doubt
the most important factor at this age level.
For those who were experiencing cricket
for the first time, this was an opportunity for them to learn the basics
of the game during the training sessions and for those more advanced, an
opportunity to play in some competitive matches. Throughout the summer,
these players improved as their confidence grew culminating in a decisive
victory away to Barry at the end of the season. All those who represented
the Club did so admirably, irrespective of the result, and the Club is
very proud of these young lads.
Whilst all those who played for the team
made notable contributions, a special mention should go to their Captain -
Jonathan Harvey along with Cai Evans and Ollie Williams who also played in
the Under 13’s XI.
I hope that the weather last summer
hasn’t dampened the spirits and desire of any future Kevin Pietersens to
remain in the game and I am sure that 2009 will see some sunshine and many
more smiling faces.
Finally, thank you to my fellow coaches,
Hannah Lewis and Michael Lloyd for giving up their time and also to the
parents of those involved for transporting to and from matches.
